Where did our Distance Training Program come from?

Field Sensei went to Iwama, Japan to live and train Aikido.
I only had to go to Melbourne.
You can train Iwama Ryu Aikido where you live!

In addition to offering regular dojo classes each week, we also provide additional training opportunities to support those students who are training online and who cannot attend regularly.

1. You can join in regular Grampians Aikido classes when you have the opportunity. (casual fee applies).
2. You can join in one of our weekend training sessions - 4 hours of training which are run by invitation. Just email us to request to be invited. (casual fee applies).
3. We can tailor an extended training session when it is mutually suitable as part of your distance training program. (fee depends on your program arrangements).
These options provide you with the support of a Sensei/senpai and the means for you to gain understanding through experiencing direct transmission of Iwama Ryu Aikido.

Contact us if you wish to know more or to be invited to one of our extended training sessions.

My Distance Training Story - white belt to Yondan

In 1992, I met Field Sensei at an introductory class.

From this experience of Aikido, I made the commitment to start training even though
I lived two and a half hours drive from Melbourne and had no previous martial arts training experience.

With a young family, full-time work, other studies and the distance to training, many challenges were faced.

I started teaching Aikido as a white belt (although teaching is probably over stated). I would train with whoever would be willing to come and stay (many came but few stayed).

When I could I attended Field Aikido classes, probably around 10-15 times a year. I would take notes, draw diagrams and pictures. I bought books and studied them. As I learned more I would pass this on to those who trained with me in my dojo. We learned together which is the Aikido way.

I am now a Yondan - 4th degree blackbelt.

I have students who are Nidan - 2nd degree black-belts who also trained by the distance training program.

Your Distance Training Story...

Distance training works! Its up to you.

Make the commitment.
Persist even when you think you wont make it
(we will help you).

Start the journey and see where the path will take you.

If now is not the right time for you, that's ok too.

But if not now, when will the right time be?
